Re: fuel gauge broken

It may not be a simple fix, or an inexpensive fix either. It could possibly be the fuel sender on the tank. I had one fail on my 97 Bonneville, too costly to repair. I mainly use the trip meter every fill up, then at approx. 300 miles fill up again. Utilize your knowledge of the car (fuel usage) in conjunction with your driving habits and the trip meter method can be a good tell-tale indicator on how much fuel is in the tank.

Re: fuel gauge broken

It's the fuel pressure sensor most likely. Bonneville's have always had problems with them. My 2002 bonneville had a recall on the sensors!

first i have heard of this fuel pressure switch, i have a 97 bonneville that the sending unit failed in. i took one out of a 96 and rebuilt it,(new lines) but now the gauge sits below empty. i had a huge fuel leak in the pressure line when i re-installed the tank, but i think the gauge should still function properly. can you let me know if you think that the switch you speak of could have anything to do with my problem or is it possibly because the sending unit fuel feelers were slightly different between the 96 and 97. could this be a power or ground issue in the white/black wire or the purple wire? kind of frustrated and not as farmiliar with these as the earleir ones. thanks man
