Question 1995 jeep cherokee sport

I have a '95 Jeep Cherokee Sport, in-line 6 cyl., 4 liter engine. As my husband was driving down the interstate at around 70 mph., it suddenly died. No sputtering or anything. Just stopped. He disconnected the fuel line to the engine and there was no fuel comming from the fuel pump. He switched the fuel pump relay with the starter relay and still no fuel. He replaced the fuel pump, still no fuel to engine. Also checked the fuel filter. It seems OK. He couldn't detect a spark from the distributor. He finally checked the 30 amp fuse that protects the fuel pump and coil and found it burned out. He didn't know about the fuse or he'd have checked it first. He changed the fuse and the new on burned out immediately. He examined as many wires as he could see but couldn't see any signs of a short.
What would be the most probable causes of this fuse problem and how would he go about determening the cause?
Thank You,
Jennifer

'95 cherokee sport

Sorry to hear you're having a similar problem. It sounds like yours will crank then die. Mine turns over really well but won't start. It's the first time it's ever done anything like this.
Good Luck with yours,
Jennifer

Cool

I think we have just figured out what is wrong with ours, a 10.00 ignition switch which is located on the steering column. We got it to autozone and they put it on a machine, everything was good, so they think because mine stops just like someone turned the switch off and then sometimes will start and sometimes won't. I'm replacing the switch now. Another reason we think this is it because my backup lights won't work either and this controls those also. Wish me luck, especially after a few hundred bucks I've already spent hopefully this little $10.00 part will do the trick. Good luck with yours.

Re: 1995 jeep cherokee sport

GREAT!!!!! Hope it works. My husband has decided to but 2 more fuses at 2.00 ea. and plug and unplug until something blows it. If we can narrow things down it'll help.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!
