Question my car

This is kind of a general question, but i need help. When i start my car, it will not idle. it will start up fine, but will not stay alive at idle, it needs to be revved to keep going. I have replaced the fuel filter and put some ful injector cleaner in the tank, but nothing different happens. This is a cop edition, too. if that makes any difference, because it still has the cop engine in it. Please let me know if you can help.

Check all the rubber vaccum lines under the hood for cracks or breaks.

Check your emails .

First off - you have the 4.6 engine, NOT the cop engine. There is no different engines in the 92 - current Vics, aside from a few intake manifold and cylinder head changes.

OK - the fuel filter was a good start. Here's a few other things it could be. Start with the basics - pull your plugs, and look for things other than normal tan color (such as carbon or oily deposits). If they haven't been replaced in the last year or two, replace them . Your idle air control motor may be shot, and your EGR may be plugged. Also, you may have a faulty TPS (Throtle position sensor).

If you've had the engine check light come on, there will be a code stored into the memory as to what's wrong with the car, and unfortunately - you have to go to the dealership for Ford's computer to read it...

Good luck with it - Merc.

Stop in at www.crownvic.net too, and see if the guys there can help .

Here is a tip that may save you a ton of money.

If the engine simply dies when you let off of the accelerator, but runs fine any other time, your IAC valve is probably just stuck.

The valve is bolted onto the back of you throttle body, and has a hose running from it to your air intake tube.

to verify the problem, take a hammer and hit the end near the electrical connector, not real hard, but give it a good hit. Most likely the car will idle fine after that.

You can replace or clean the valve. Cleaning usually fixes it, but replacing guarantees it is fixed.

Let me know if that helped
