On my 91, I used engage OD at 45mph. I don't what mileage you are getting, but originally it was 19/26. Compare to a same year Corolla (28/33), that's not so good. But try to pack 4 of your friends in a Corolla. Unlike a Corolla, you have room and power. That's the trade-off. So if you launch at every stop light, your gas mileage is going to drop. You drive like grandma, you gas mileage will stay up. Your foot has more to do with mileage than any of those switches. If you already drive like grandma (yeah, right) than the next thing is strict maintenance. Strong as the car is, 13 years old in car years is usually past retirement age. Burn good gas, regular/frequent oil changes, and new spark plugs especially if your don't how long the current plugs have been in there.

don't forget to run a fuel system/injector treatment
there's not much you can do with an auto to save gas. try not to nail the gas so often.

Yeah, that fuel treatment is good stuff. If your car is losing power or just not running right, that stuff will fix a whole world of problems. Cheaper than a mechanic, too!

it's a gasoline additive. go buy a fuel system treatment at autozone. i prefer the one called hit hard.

when you're ready to fill your tank with gas, go to the gas station(which probably has injector cleaner) and pour it in your tank then totally fill up. it mixes with the gas and as it passes through the gas lines and injetors and piston cylinders and all that, it cleans all the gunk out. they usually have an octane booster in them too for a lil extra oomph. i run one through my car every 10K miles or so

They cost anywhere from $1.99 - $3.50 a bottle usually. There are a few different ones made by STP, Berryman, Gunk et al.

A common overlooked item is the O2 sensor(s). I've seen many not up to snuff and not set a code ,but give you crap mileage. Best way is to tie into the return wire from the O2 and measure the voltage while engine is warmed up. Should cycle between .1-.9 volts DC.
Anything below .7 it's toast! I've seen many do the .7V thing and not set a code, but it will affect emissions and mileage even though the car may seem to run OK. I do emissions repairs and diagnostics and this is a pretty common item to eat up your wallet slowly. Easy to check, just need a DVOM. Digital volt meter. Have fun!!
