Are Coolant Problems common with Achievas?

I got my 96 Acheva SC about 3 months ago and it's been having some problems with the cooling system. I replaced the thermostat and the coolant reservoir cap. The engine still overheats and begins to smoke after the car is turned off. The smoke smells like oil burning. If anyone is having similar problems and knows how to fix them, please respond to this.
