Any one know any small mods for first Gen Probe?
I have a 89 GT, and its fast and all but i would like to do some more to it. So if anyone has any opinions or mods that they know that are relatively(sp?) cheap, if you could tell me or share them that would be cool. Thanks.

I don't really know what kind of power you are looking for. Do u hv full three inch exhaust(really helps the turbo). Good set of wires and plugs and stage 1 or 2 clutch. If u want some serious power then depending on condition of your engine you can upgrade to a larger turbo. Beware if you are wanting to much of a boost increase u will need new pistons. I used to hv a 1990 Probe GT, 5spd. It was very fast for a stock car, and very underated for its actual performance capabilities. The car was totalled by a drunk driver when I was hit in the back at 60mph. I hv a 1990 Celica GTS now that I am hooking up, but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the PROBE.

Well im going to upgrade my exhaust but im not sure how big i should go cause i dont want to make it so three isnt enough back pressure. My brother told me that its not good to let the turbo breath too easy (im not a motor head, i wish i was and im getting there...but yea) so im thinkin of like upgrades that will bring my 0-60 time up and my quarter mile...cause my friend has a 92 eclipse gsx...wich is just a bit better than mine...well i want to school him... lol... so yea any suggestions? THANKS

My first question to you is? HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT to spend?
The first thing you should do is get get a boost gauge and a A/F gauge Next get a boost controller and get injectors from a 91gt those are 330cc compaired to our 190cc in 89. Next get a bigger fuel pump like a 190 from walbro and a chip that will let you boost to 16llbs safely. Now if you really want to own him and thats if he hasn't didi any mods to his car get a bigger turbo with all these mods you should be in the md to low 14's easy I'm do a complete rebuild with custom everything and still will just be able to breakin in the low 13's these cars are not ment for speed but for torqe. NOW if your really serious about spending some cash get a Jspec motor by mada its a 2.0L 16valve DOHC known over here as the FE3. NOW with some 5k invested in that you will be running low 12 high elevens Thats if you serious about speed for our cars BTW I have a 89GT |

Re: Any one know any small mods for first Gen Probe?
[quote=90CelicaGTS]. Do u hv full three inch exhaust(really helps the turbo). QUOTE]
a 3" muffler maybe, but a 3" exhaust will not fit on the 1st gen probe, there is no room for a 3" exhaust! Heres a starter with some free mods: Rip out the A/C, to do this you will have to lose your Power Steering or replace with a smaller belt to get your Power steering back. Also you can take off your cat and gut the inside of it out completely, (DO NOT) take this to a muffler shop and ask them to do it for you, cause they WILL without any questions turn you down. The insides of the 89 cat will take u a good 15-20 min to clean out cause it is very thick. As for the a/c block, when you rip this off, and take your car out driving, your turbo will make a really odd sound when it spools.. Do not be afraid the turbo is not broken, you are just getting all that power to the block just no belt to spin. You could do a little port and polish, if you have a friend or u know how to do it, otherwise this will cost you some good money. for a little more speed, like me you can completely rip out the back of your interior ie: back seats, flooring, siding. As far as free mods thats all i can come to mind right now. As for paying for parts: Intake: for the 1st gen tends to be a little more spendy then other cars due to the fact that you have to buy the adapter that hooks up to the MAFS. Exhaust: like said above dont bother trying to buy and install a 3" exhaust cause it will not fit on the car, muffler yes. Header, cams, pulleys, turbo upgrade, maybe a lil Nitrous Nitrous you need to watch very closely cause you will be running nitrous into a turbine engine so watch out! As for the Turbo, key thing to watch out for: these turbos are not air cooled turbos, yet oil cooled turbos.. Therefore they dump oil into the turbo and burn up the oil, so for doing this your car will run a little more oil then a normal car ie: running the drag strip you will need to check oil cause the car will use some good amount of oil. New injectors are also a very good thing, perhaps some new plugs and plug wires.. Depending on what mods ie: nitrous that you are putting on will depend the difference between running hotter or colder spark in your plugs. If you are looking for more of a 1/4 time and dont mind the pain, as another free mod that leads back to the weight reduction, you will not be DOT certified but you can take the actual metal bumper that is under the plastic bumper off of the car for less weight, in this i would only recomend doing the rear cause the metal on the front helps weigh down the front end for better traction on take off. Hope this has been of use for you, If you have any questions on this matter please email me or pm me, if you would also like some links for places to get these parts for your car please respond!
