hmmm interesting... I am "babysitting" an 88 150 for 6 months while its owner is serving in IRAQ. Took it in to the mechanic for the loose steering problem and it's the steering box. He's calling around local junk yards for parts. If you want to know more as it progresses... let me know

Hey, thanks man, ya please keep me posted on the steering box issue. I've never played around in there. Give my regards to your friend in Iraq, I'm in uniform too, but didn't get the pleasure to go over.

You didn't say wether you tried adjusting the box? You should have approx. 1/8 turn either way on you steering wheel when the motor is'nt running and no more. If you haven't adjusted it , try it. On top of the box is a stud with a lock nut on it. Loosen the nut and lightly snug the stud clockwise and then give it about 1/8 more turn. Make sure that when you tighten the nut back you don't tighten the stud more. There should be a slot in the top for a screwdriver to hold the stud still when you tighten the nut. Be sure to check the turning and (return) of the steering wheel with the motor running before you drive it because if you tighten it too much it could stick on you. Does the truck swerve a little when you hit a mud puddle?
