Speaker dimensions
Does anyone know the dimensions for the stock speakers in a 94 4Runner. When I bought mine the speakers were already blown and I'm finally getting around to fixing them. Thanks!

Re: Speaker dimensions
All speakers are 4 inch but you can mount 6x9 in the rear

'94 rears...
Hey there,
Have you already replaced them? Since 2003, I would hope so. I have found the Crutchfield site VERY helpful with respect to sizing and availability. I found that the '94runner accomodates 5 1/4" speakers in the rear with the stock mounting bracket, but 6 1/2" speakres WILL fit using an alternate mounting bracket (included if purchased from Crutchfield.com). I am looking to match my front 4" Rockford Fosgates that I dropped in with similar in the rear, but I have yet to decide whether to go with the 5 1/4" or 6 1/2". Did you do it already? If so, which did you choose and how have they performed since doing so? Additionally, from one '94runner owner to another, have you ever replaced your luggage light? If so, how do you do it? I canNOT figure it out. And, did/have you found a cargo cover for the rear? The '94s did not come with one nor do they accomodate that provided in all models from '95 - present. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as would be your time. Thank you. runesong |

Re: '94 rears...
I'd opt to go with the 6 1/2" speakers since 5 1/4" have no bass, but if you're going to mount the 5 1/4" in the front, then that would be a good bet since 5 1/4" are only good for midrange. Perhaps you could go with the component speaker sets from Crutchfield for the front and go with the 6 1/2" for the rear speakers. Also putting in Dynamat Extreme is very recommended!

Re: Speaker dimensions
Are you mounting them in an enclosure designed to match their resonant frequency?
ANY speaker not mounted in a tuned enclosure will not have much low end response. The "stock" enclosures Toyota shipped were quite well designed. 2 eights will produce far more amplitude in tuned enclosures than 2 twelve’s in a "generic" drop-in box. |
