how much hp can I expect with a 400

I just picked up my Chevy 400 small block and I'm looking to spend no more then 3 grand on the motor and go all motor, I was just wonder how much horsepower/torque can I expect to have if I build the 400 and do everything myself

Re: how much hp can I expect with a 400

for 3k id go with hydraulic roller cam, and trickflow 23 deg heads, and some kind of big flowing header. this will put almost all of the "bottleneck" in the intake, which i would buy last since sometimes you can pick up a nice victor series cheap at swap meets. if its carburated, a race demon 1000 CFM carb through www.sdpc2000.com is only $680. the heads should be like 1.2k /pair. cam setup could be around $750 if you shop around. headers can befound around 250, edelbrock super victor intake for 23 deg heads is like 270., if the setup is efi then just go ahead and forget everything i said
