All depends on what your going for, I would pick a 94 or 95 because of their 2nd gen looks without being obd2.

But if your planning on tuning your car and want to datalog, those are the worst years to pick. There is no dataloging avalible for the 94 or 95, not yet anyways. Someone on 3si is making a datalogger for them, but I dont know when its supposed to be finished.

As an owner of a 94 and 95, I’d say a 94 and 95

obd2 is a standard in data comunication for the ECU. It will allow you to read things off of it. Logging the data you read from the ECU is datalogging. Its used to read the o2 sensors, timing, throtle, and many other things.

Sorry ill take it down a level. Datalogging is a way for you to read and record the information that the computer that runs your engine is seeing. Being able to see that information lets you tune your car in a safer manner than using gauges alone. Currently datalogging can be done on 91-93 and 96+ cars.

obd2 is the "language" that all 96+ cars in the USA were required by law to speak. before that the cars computer could speak whatever "language" the maker wanted it to. The problem with obd2 is that there are different "accents"(trying to keep with the language theme) and just because something can read one car that is obd2 doesnt mean that it can read another cars obd2.(GM vs Mitsu for example)

91-93 speak the same "language" as all the 4g63 cars out there, so a datalogger was created for those, and was easy to translate from them, 96+ is obd2 so it can be datalogged. 94-95 speaks it own "language" that no other mitsu car speaeks. So it had to be created from scratch, but someone is almost done.

OK well im looking between 3 years. A 91, 93, or 96. Which do you think would be the best choice in all around stuff. Which goes 0-60 the fastest and which 1/4 mile is the fastest. And also which one would YOU pick if you could choose. Thanks

96 was an good year for them, but they are very rare, even as far as 3/s cars go( any of those are rare period, not to mention the 96's) but a good choice. 91 there's alot of controversy over their egines, and souping them up, but ive seen some sweet 91's tho, so... just controversial. but theirs plenty of 91's (again as far as 3/s's are concerned... their all still rare cars!) 93 was a good year, i have yet to hear bad stuff bout them. i believe they have the 4 bolt that the 91's lacked. 93's good. in conclusion, if i had my choice, it'd be a 99 VR-4 !!!!! aaahhh.... so beautiful !!!! lol but, then again, ppl in hell want ice water... lol (translation, i cant have one[yet!!]) so in ur sit. id prolly get the 96 if i could, but a 93 would be badass as well, and since it would prolly be cheaper than the 96 i might get it instead... but their both harder to find then a 91, so i might just end up paying less than both of them and getting a 91... and if its a bit deal put a 2nd gen motor... bassicaly i have in no way answered ur question for u! but... its stuff to think on!

96

I like the 96 cause it still got the active aero, but it doesnt have the active exhaust and active struts anymore. The people in our DFW 3/S club seem to have the most is 92's. Like 80% of our club is first gen.

I have the OBDII dataloger but before I had a chance to use it Mitsubishi blew up my engine, now they replaced the short block, fixed after 11 days I take it out for a few hours bang Iam stalled at the sideof the road, wonder what it is now. At least they admitted fault and taking care of all the cost and are paying for a rental. Maybe finally they realize that running a car without any oil does require a whole new engine including new turbos not just a new short block oh well tomorrow we will see again , the good thing isthat my old engine had 105000 miles on it.

Hey, I Would Say The 94, Because Its The Second Gen, And Its The Best Thing You Can Get Without Paying The Price For The Spyder Vr4. Love Em, But Theyre Just Too Damn Expensive. At Least For Me...
