Inherited '82 300SD - Is it a keeper?

I am new to Mercedes and not sure if this is a good model/year/money pit.

The car runs and seems to be very clean (regularly maintained) with 66,000 miles.

I am not looking for a project, just a steady ride.

Should I keep it?

Oh, and how's the air. Florida resident.

If a mechanic pronounces the major systems in good shape then she’s definitely a keeper. These are among the best cars MB made. The OM617 engine will last to 300,000 + miles with out a problem. These are very desirable cars and very much sought after. As with any other car if the A/C is working well it will keep you cool, check it with your mechanic. (I live in Florida, too. )

I had a 300d, essentially the same car only a shorter wheelbase. Sold the car two years ago with more than 400,000 miles on it. In my opinion, that engine was the best MB ever made. Keep the car if all checks out good on her.

Id Agree also, i got a 83sd and the ride is absolutly awesome! and ive got 270,000 on it.

I have 2 MBs 1 300 SD 1982 i bought used 5 years ago with 200,000 + miles . My wife and my teen aged son have tortured, abused, and beat and bangged and tried to run the krappin wheels off of this car but yet it maintaines its mechanical stability and its composure as that of an acme brick. I beleve these are THE BEST cars that have ever been made. Not to mention the best diesels. even now 5 years and now 500,000+ miles later it looks like a new car inside and out the doors, trunk, and hood still fit and function perfectly.

so if you want to unload that horrible junkpile that burdens your driveway .. call !!!!
