what is a breather filter

Hey guys i am a noob and i just bought a 2001 r/t neon. it came witha injen cai. it has some filter on the piupe taht i beleive is a breather filter. am i right? and what doe it do?

yep thats the one. The filter doesn't really do anything I'd just take it off and throw it away. This should give your car more horsepower. Just joking! Sheesh! Really though the filter, well um filtrates the air, in that any dirt, bugs or any other material that doesn't belong inside of your little 2 litter stays out as long as that is on. Make sure it is a high performance filter by checking it out, if it is paper then make sure you have plans to spend say 60 bucks for a K&N filter. But seeing as you have a CAI it should already have a HP filter.
