Stock '90 Civic Motor vs. '97 Cobra w/NOS

I know what you're thinking.... poor civic....Just to let you know, this isn't my car we're talking about, it's a guy's I know, so you won't think I'm exaggerating. Anyway he got a 90 Civic with no mods against a 97 SVT Cobra with 100 shot of NOS. They warm their tires up, Cobra smoking rear tires... Civic just shooting forward no smoke....They take off and bam Civic beats him in quarter mile by about 1 1/2 car lengths.. how you may ask? Considering his civic has no hood, cut off roof, no trunk lid, no rear bumper, 1 removable seat....and is light enough for 1 person to pick up rear 3 feet off of the ground, lol. This proves that if you can't afford to beat them with power in a 4 cylinder, just gut your car and cut off the roof with a saw. Lol

Re: Stock '90 Civic Motor vs. '97 Cobra w/NOS

Post some pics, otherwise prepare for some flames, and me locking this thread...

For that Civic to be even anywhere NEAR the '97 Cobra's power-to-weight, it needs to be around 1,100lbs in weight.

1997 Mustang Cobra:
Curb weight - 3315 lbs
HP - 305
3315/305
10.87 lbs-per-hp

Let's say your buddy's Civic is actually an Si, with 106HP, as opposed to 88HP from anything else from 1990:

1100 lbs
1100/106
10.38 lbs-per-hp

Even then, it's not that much difference for the car to be pulling 1.5 cars through a quarter-mile.

Personally, I vote that you are a troll trying to start shit, but if I am wrong, and you post pics of how you guys accomplished a 900+lbs of weight-reduction on a Civic hatch and still have it running, then I'll apologize. Till then, you're on watch under "troll" status.

EDIT:

Oops, forgot to mention that those numbers above are for a STOCK Cobra. with a 100-shot...well, the Civic must look like a go-kart

Maybe if the car had been stripped down to the bare floorpan with rope tied to the ball joints instead of a steering wheel in order to save weight. YeeHaa, just like them old chuck wagons.

Anyway, here's a link to a couple of 2003 Cobras on the quartermile,

if you don't believe me then that's your issue, but the car flies... and yes I picked the rear up alone, but I weight 225 and play football but it is really light... again I repeat that he cut off the roof all the way to the trunk, took out the trunk and rear bumper, hood, seats, consoles, and replaced interior with tubing..also the cobra spins and they raced in an 1/8 of a mile, typo

'quarter mile' was a typo to '1/8'?
