Auto Tranny probs

Alright, Alright, make your automatic cracks here:

Now to the explanation of why I might have Automatic problems. I ran into a deal for a 95 240 for $600, paint isn't that great, needs a new fuel pump, and tranny don't like high gear. I figured its a freakin 95 240 for cheap, sure its an auto, but later down the line i can change that, but for now its a RWD car that I have been wanting for a long time.

Ok, the tranny has been replaced once, because the old owner thought the tranny was going out on him because it didn't like going into high gear, so he had it changed out. He even rode in the car the tranny came out of and didn't have a problem with it. But once it got in his car the same problem hit him again. He tried taking it back to the mechanic, mechanic said it has to be something electical. Im just wondering what all possiblities it could be, what parts, etc.

thanks in advance, hopefully i will get some good answers to this.

yes this is my first post in the 240 forums, i will be judging you guys from your responses, so if you would like another 240 member, please don't flame....hahahaha thats gonna provoke you to flame

Ok, not to start an arguement, i came here for some help, not arguing, but seriously, you think you can get me banned? If you think so, go for it, if you just said that to try and state that if i provoke flaming i will get banned just as a warning, thats cool. But I have been around AF for over a yr now, and I know Igor knows that I don't cause problems that often.

hmmmmmmmm

this is a toughie, especially without seeing the car.

ok first things first. You said its probably a problem with your car instead of the tranny. Have your car scanned at a mechanic shop. We have a snap on scanner you can plug into about any car and it will display certain information, codes in the computer, etc. Have your cooler lines flushed for starters. Get some new tranny fluid, make sure its the right type, there are a few different ones. Get a new filter, pan gasket all that good stuff lol. If it is still giving you problems I suggest checking out the electrical.

Another cool thing about that Snap On scanner. It has a diagnostic area where it just shows information about the running car. Pretty much everything too, what is cool for tuners is the A/F ratio and a couple other things along th ose lines. Also measures rpm, tps, temps of various fluids, output rpm's, lockups, line pressures, buncha cool shit! mainly just use it for diagnostic problems, its the main starting point to figuring out what is wrong. But this could also be a cool performance thing to have. It would be nice to have one hooked up to your car so you can see what all its doing, almost like a STACK gauge cluster, but hell of a lot better lol.

Re: Auto Tranny probs

Once I actually get the car im going to have the computer scanned at work, see if there are any sensors out. Thought of it today that it could just be the speed sensor, since the computer might not know the speed, that could be causing it not to shift.

Or here is a better idea, anyone have any how-tos or know which mag came out with the how-to. I don't think it was that hard, just really need the tranny, mounts and maybe a couple other things.

Re: Auto Tranny probs

Sounds Like A Computer Issue If No Matter What Tranny Gets Put In It Does The Same Thing. Are These Vacuum Over Electric Like The Ka24e? If It Is, Check The Vacuum Lines.

Alright, Got the 240, everything runs good in it except the tranny, it doesn't shift above 2nd. That I could see of, there were no vacuum lines so its a pure electric tranny. Ive tried manualy shifting it and still got no where on it. I don't know if my overdrive button being unhooked could cause any complications, but I wouldn't think so. I need some help on this so I can get it going on the road.

Other than that all it really needs now is tires, and a little interior work....and ofcourse paint still but thats after it gets clipped after awhile. Everything runs strong other than the tranny, I would love to see how it drives with a manual but will have to wait on that for now.

If anyone has any tips or anything I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if you post after christmas....i probably won't get it for a couple months because I have no internet. If you think you know what it is and its already past christmas you can go ahead and post it and ill get to it ASAP.
