HYPERTECH questions

I was just looking at hypertech programmers, and got sorta confused......do you have to run Premium Fuel if you use a hypertech, or is it just recommended if you want optimum performace. I am really not interested in running premium fuel. I just would like to mess with my top speed limiter and transmission shift points and firmness.

I had a Hypertech Power Programmer for a '99 Tahoe and I'm pretty sure its still the same deal. You only have to use premium fuel if you use the power tuning option on the programmer, it advances your timing for higher octane fuels. The other options were changing tire size from stock, changing transmission shift points/firmness, change for a different thermostat, change for a different rear-end ratio, and change of top speed rating up to 128MPH. You could change all these options independently. My programmer was a Power Programmer III, some may have different options.

Re: HYPERTECH questions

Do not buy hypertech. They are junk. If you are going to go with a programmer, go with Superchips.

My buddy that deals in both of them says that about 1 out of 2 come back with something wrong.

Re: HYPERTECH questions

The fact that they don't break as often is the main thing. Hypertechs are always being brought back with some malfunction, Superchips are not. If autozone sells it, it can't be that good....lol.

I also like the fact that they are VIN locked, but can reset your truck to unlock the programmer. That means you can use it on many trucks to come. I don't know if Hypertechs are VIN locked.

Re: HYPERTECH questions

You can use a Hypertech on one truck, and only on the year model specified on the box. Like mine for instance, I can use it only on a 99. And when it's installed on my truck, it cant be installed on another unless mine it re-set back to stock.

Re: HYPERTECH questions

Superchips become vin locked when you use them on your truck, so they can't be stolen, but if you sell the truck, you can reset it to stock which will unlock the superchips and it can be used on the next truck you buy. No matter the year, as long as it's the same make.

Smile predatorIII vs hypertech

I have a 2000 silverado with the 5.3 engine. I was considering the Hypertech very seriously, however I went with the Predator III for many reasons. 1. As someone previously stated you can only use the hypertech on 1 truck. You can used the PIII on other truck(s) 'PROVIDED' you unload the the power program buy insatalling the stock program saved in the predator....basically cleaning out the unit(obtw) it is multi year application and engines mine covers from 99-2003 thru all engines except diesel). 2. 30 day return policy. 3. The biggest plus was that it is also a diagnostic tool/ will read and clear codes. I am an ex mechanic, for an extra $75.00 I paid $425.00 at my door it was well worth the money. (only complain shipping was a little slow about 8 days) all I can say about the programer is...... WOW...... MPG went from 9-10 to 14 -16 on 92/93 octane and the power /torgue curve is totally assume. At 90 mph the tach went from approx 1500 to approx 2100 in overdrive. Push the tow/haul botton in at a toll both and hang on to your a$$.... And it does now go approx. 130 mph vice the 92mph set at the factory..

I tried this out on an unused runway @ a military base.

Re: HYPERTECH questions

Does that Predator have options to change for aftermarket tire size and have an option for shift points and firmness?
