Thumbs down Fuckity fuck, fuck, fuck. I hate computers.

Fuck. Thats all I have been saying the past 30 minutes. I was trying to resize my windows XP partition using Partition Magic. Well, 75% through it, PQMagic decides to crash on me. All I could say was fuck no. Well the worst has happened. My XP drive is toast. I have lost so much. So many pictures, music, documents. Various WTC stuff. When I go through my 2k drive, this is what I see:

Fuck

Damn Kris, that fuckin sucks. Was it more XP's fault or that PQMagic program. Please tell me you have it backed up somewhere.

Sorry to hear about that, Kris.

I know the pain all to well of losing a ton of stuff. Im very surprised that Partition Magic packed-up on you like that. I hope there is some way that you can restore your data.

Good luck, your gonna need it.

It was all PQMagic. I have two versions. One version is all windows based, and very new. The second one is a dos based version. The dos based version I have had forever, and udually works great. But thats the one that crapped out on me.

Also, I really dont have much backed up. I would occasionaly move files to my other partition, but thats about it. I still have lost quite a few things.

Oh well, I am getting ready for the big Format here ina bit.

Ok kb, this is what I do for a living so here goes my standard set of instructions and questions, I hope I can help ya out.

1. Were was the info you lost? On an entire partition or virtual drive?
2. What does that place look like now? Is it just empty or what?
3. Unless you are sure it won't work, go grab some data recovery software off tucows.com or zdnet. It sounds menial but alot of the time it works even whan stuff goes way wrong 'cause remember, the info isn't gone untill windows writes over it, it just isn't tagged in the reg.

Also, how long ago did this happen? That is a very big factor as to whether or not the data recovery will work or not. Lemme try and find a good data recovery freeware, I'll give ya a URL in a few.

I'm not sure how this one works but it seemed to be the most promising.

Wow, thatnks for all that. Now I wish I had waited until tomorrow to reformat.

I am now up and running again, after formatting everything and starting over. But thanks for your help.
