Question Air Bag Deployment

My daughter has a 1996 Honda accord, LX. She rear ended another vehicle. The air bags deployed and substained some bumper damage. I straightened the bumber, re-alligned radiator, headlights ect. Problem is...car will not start. It turns over, but no fuel. Apparently there is not a resettable fuel pump cut off on this car that can be reset. I have not replaced air bags yet. I guess the question is...is there an interlink betwqeen air bag and fuel pump and how do I get around/bypass it?

The reason I believe it is the fuel pump because it does not making normal humming sound whn key turned on like it use to...makes no noise at all.

Re: Air Bag Deployment

Don't forget if the air bags deployed you must replace the bags & SRS control unit. Try resetting the ECU by removing the hazard fuse from the main fuse box(under-hood) for 15 seconds then see what happens.

Thanks, going to try that now, pull out ecm fuse...just to clear up...I was not planning to replace bags and srs system...too expensive on this car for the value of the car...I was just going to remove the air bags that deployed. Are you saying car will not start with out changing or putting in new srs system? Thanks

Re: Air Bag Deployment

The car should start(depending on damage) if the air bags went off - there are some sensors that break-away in the SRS control unit to signal the bags. If not replaced the air bags will never work.

I have airbags and the SRS System, if your interested, make me an offer... You can email me at [email protected]. They are out of a 97 Accord and are the same as the 96. Call Honda and price em! Let me know if your interested.

Peace

Question Front End Damage too

I have a similar situation as you. I wrecked the front end, hard enought to deploy airbags, damage hood, break windshield and make the under bumper(Black) in need of replacement. Can you give me an approximation on your repair bill. I'm unwilling to claim it with insurance, and still owe money on it and am looking at my options. Thanks..

Re: Air Bag Deployment

Hey check out ebay too. I could be wrong but I woulda sworn I saw airbags on there a while back.

Obviously be careful if you don't know what you're doing! Those things can and will kill you if they go off while you're bent over the steering column working on it.

Re: Air Bag Deployment

whats the best way to just disconnect the air bags so that i don't have to worry about them going off and busting the windshield?
