Angry OBD2 Scanner Needed Or Not?

hi
i have a nissan altima and on my obd2 system i can gat trouble codes and clear them form the unit itself. all doing it with a screwdriver.
is this possible on my cousins '97 explorer xlt. it has a v6.
the cel light came on when she was driving down the road.

Yes, you do need the obd2 reader.
