Help Fuel Pressure Regulator Location?
Hello,
I have a 1996 Silverado 1500 with the 5.7 Vortec engine and just bought a fuel pressure regualtor along with the factory manuals for the truck. The manuals give little information on the location of the pressure regulator. Shoudn't be hard to find since there is a vacum hose coming off it but I can not find it for the life of me. The pressure reg is underneath the upper intake manifold! It is attached to the fuel metering body that has the injectors in it. It will take about an hour and a half to remove the upper manifold your 1st time. If yours is not bad I would not change it just for the fun of it!

Thanks for the help LastOne. When I ran a search on this site I saw a bunch of posts about a half hour job. Symptoms sounded the same but who knows. Difficult starting and somewhat poor idle. Runs fine once it gets going. Looks like I need to look into other causes since the Vortec is a bit more difficult to change out the regulator.

Sounds like you have the infamous injector poppet ball sticking problem. The end of the injector where it goes into the head has a check ball about the size of a BB. It gets gummed up and sticks. Cleaning sometimes helps. Try having a high pressure cleaning of your injectors done. Good luck.

Update
Just a quick update on this in the event it might help anyone. I ended up taking the truck to the dealer after discovering that there was a safety recall on the wiper motor which was also failing. The dealer wanted $144 labor to replace the fuel pressure regulator. I wasn't too confident about removing the manifold myself and the labor cost seemed reasonable to me. Got the truck back today, Saturday. The service and parts department of the local dealer is open till Midnight during the week and they work Saturday's, which is nice. They also charged $35 or so for a seal kit. Part and old seals returned to me in bag, though a bit fuel smelly. I've always been a bit leary about taking vehicles to the dealer for service but in this case it worked out great. Two free recall fixes since I've owned the truck and the regulator work at 145k miles, and all is well. The truck runs like new!!!
