1999 intrigue consumes oil
hello,
1999 3.5 L uses about 1 quart of oil per 1400 miles, is this normal with all intrigues or should i dump the car ? my 1990 touring sedan uses no oil and it has 280,500 miles on it. my intrigue has 64,500 miles. iv'e had it for only 1 month, i drive 70 miles per day. |

Re: 1999 intrigue consumes oil
My 2000 has used oil since I got it as a program car with 25k, now has 60k, doesnt use as much as yours, but at least a qt every 2500 miles. Dealer says its normal...I disagree, none of my other vehicles use ANY oil even with 150K miles on them...

If you change your own oil, be aware that the 3.5 needs 6 quarts of oil to completely fill the crankcase.

Need to know: What brand of oil, what weight of oil, synthetic or dino, and how hard you drive the car. I recently found some Mobil 1 0W-30 on sale at Walmart for a dollar a quart. I bought all they had. I did some research and used 3 quarts of that and 3 quarts of 10W-30, for a final weight of 5W-30. My 99 never burned oil before, but was a quart low at oil change. Some grades are more prone to burning oil than others. I typically use Mobil 1, and change when the oil life monitor tells me to.

Re: 1999 intrigue consumes oil
Hey gang, I am in the same boat as ssheely. My car runs and drives like a dream but is burning oil somewhere. Should I worry about this other than topping off the oil? It is using quite a bit.

All Intrigues burn oil. Use Synth and the car will burn less and the engine will last twice as long.

Try buying the lucas stuff , it cost about 6-7 bucks and you replace that for a quart of oil. Its good stuff!
