Question 1979 honda civic...can i swap in a D-series?????

i need help with this one....all of my knowledge about hondas pertains to post 1990's models....anything prior and i get a little lost. heres the deal...while wandering through a local salvage yard looking for a possible victim for a drag car, i stumbled upon a 1979 honda civic 1300 hatchback in reasonably good shape. it even has a manual transmission.
i love the little car and would like to restore it to its former glory but with a twist which brings me to the question. i want to throw a new motor in it....more specifically a D-series SOHC or somthing close. Can this even be accomplished and if so..how difficult would it be. are we talking direct bolt in or rewelding an engine mount or two. These engines are a dime a dozen and can be bought online for a very reasonable price and would be perfect to give the little car some extra scoot. my problem is finding info on such a swap...either i am the only fool to think of this or it's impossible. hopefully its just the first. any information about this would be greatly appreciated

it is not a new trick, it has been done many times, there mite be some info on this sight but do a search on it on the web too, i cant think of any sights off the top of my head. it does require a LOT of modification if you want to put a third gen motor in, anything up to 1987 will bolt in tho, i will see if i can find u a sight later

You will need custom mounts, plus u will have to do the usual carb to FI stuff (wiring, new fuel lines, etc.) You can use your stock axles. Check out www.civic1200.com.
