Angry 95 bonne coolant disappears

I have a 95 bonne se 3.8 l with 111,000 miles and i just had the radiator flushed and the thermo. replaced and 2 wks later i was 1/2 gal low of antifreeze. I saw no leaking anywhere and the car never overheated. What could be wrong and should I worry about it if it doesn't overheat?

Ok did it start running hot or did you just notice that the fluid was low?

there is a posibility that you did not fill it up completely...you can fill the radiator etc...but once you start the engine some of that fluid goes into the engine..then you have to top off again!

so re fill it and watch it closely as you could have an intake leak and that could seize your engine...also you may not notice leaks because the engine is hot and burns it off before it leaks!

Re: 95 bonne coolant disappears

Sometimes you can get an air pocket in the cooling system that will take a while to purge.
If you suspect a coolant leak, have the cooling system pressure tested.

My 94 SSEi has a drain plug (actually a pit-cock) on the thermostat housing that you need to crack open , then shut when you start getting coolant out of it. GMMerlin is probably right, you could very well have a air pocket in there and it needs to work it's way out.

Re: 95 bonne coolant disappears

I agree with firehawkman, check the upper intake since this a common problem.I seen a 1999 Bonneville do this Friday and the engine is toast running like crap, got way too hot after replacing the spark plugs also

Re: 95 bonne coolant disappears

I hope the OP was able to get the air pocket out of the cooling system during the last 6-years! This is an old thread, please notice date of the original post (11-14-2003, 11:52 PM) in the dark blue stripe above the first post!
