Steering coloum squeek
I have a 1998 Grand Am v-6 with a squeaking sound that sounds like it is in the steering column as I turn the steering wheel right to left. I squirted W-D 40 where I could see moving parts in by the steering wheel and down where the rack and pinion connects to the column. It is hard to pin-point the noise as it sounds clear from both places. Any ideas? Is it possible the rack and pinion is getting bad? The steering seems just fine except for the squeaking sound.

gm has a new pinion seal out for this problem it can be done without removal of the rack.also they had a problem with the cancelling cam losing lubrication wich is also your horn contact wich causes a metal to metal squeak usually very noticible close to the steering wheel.
