Question Whineing at around 2500 rpms >> Please help

Whats up.. I own A 2000 Grand Prix G.T. and i have a whineing also, but its kinda differant then all of yours.. when the engine is cold it doesnt whine, but after like 5 minutes of driving everytime the rpm's hit 2500, it makes a whineing sound. at first i thought it was coming from the front of the engine, but i was drivin it around today and it sounds like its coming from the back. Could it possibaly be the exaust? iv brought it to the service department at major world chevrolet (where i bought the car) and they checked under the hood at the trany and didnt fine anything. and i brought it to a service place around where i live and they changed the transmiton fluid and checked it out but it is still whining at 2500 rpm's. i realy need some help and i dont know much about cars. this is my 1st car and im 17 years old... if you know anything about this drop a line, and ill have my mechanic look at it.. thanks a lot... Tom.

find the problem

you might try having a friend sit in the car while it's parked and reving it up to 2500 rpm and see if you can find the noise... keep the hood open and see if it's comming from the belt/pully system (on the passenger side of the engine) or somewhere else...notice if it only happens when you are moving or if it happens when the rpms are reach a certain speed.

intake

for the intake i recomend a k&n filter and maybe a fender wall intake. i don't think it would be a problem to go ahead and put that in before you get the noise taken care of. but if money is an issue you might want to make sure that it's not something you will need to fix soon like a water pump or leaky exaust pipe.

Re: Whineing at around 2500 rpms >> Please help

the exaust pipes are leaking.. like drops.(idk if that is normal)..like i said im not that good with cars and stuff but im here to learn. it leaks out of the exhaust pipes and in the groves of the pipes where they connect.. and if that is bad... do i need a whole new exaust system.. or should i bring it to the mechanic and let him look at the exaust.. i just bout the car about a month ago and i have a guarente on it.. its just inconvienient to keep bringin it up there and arranging a ride back... thanks again...

exaust

leaking air? you could replace it but you shouldn't have to...if you take it to an exaust place they should be able to weld it shut where ever it's leaking.
