Slapshift Transmission?

I've heard a little about these but not enough to tell me what i need to know. I have a 79 Transam with the worst transmission known to the world. Its anti-racing, works fine when im not accelerating that fast but when i flore it it wont shift right.

I've been looking a little into a kinda of transmission called a shapshifter, could be its name or its stile . Is it automatic is it manual?what?? from what i was told from some of my friends its kinda both. But i dont know someone help me!! does it have a clutch? if not is there something else u have to use when braking?? HELP ME!

Re: Slapshift Transmission?

A slapshifter is the shifter itself...Nothing to do with the transmission. Made by various companies. The slapshifter is so that when starting in first after accelerating you slap the shifter forward as fast and hard as you want and it will go into 2nd then do the same into 3rd and so on. Same functions as the stock one but it is funner and better for racing. But again this has nothing to do with the tranny itself.

what about those shifters like in funny cars where each gear has its own lever....you pull down first...next lever pulls down to engage 2nd...and so on...ive never seen this in anything but funny cars and jet cars and stuff....
