Unhappy Bad EGR Valve + Keyless Entry

I have a 1994 Cutlass Supreme SL that i absolutly adore, and because i do i'm "this close" to having it in flawless condition...

I needed to know why the "Service Engine Soon" light was coming on after about 2 minutes of driving, as well as why my keyless entry wasn't working....
$107 US dollars later, my answers are, a bad EGR Valve and a bad reciever...

According to thier prices, both are spendy to fix... So i've spent the past hour and a half looking for an EGR Valve online only finding one for about 237 dollars....
I would really appreciate any info anyone could give me if they've had the same problem and/or where they got their replacement(s) for their car

Thank you

Scott,
I to have a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. My Service Engine Soon light is also on. I had it checked and the code was also the EGR valve. The mechanic told me that the computer said Solenoid number 3 was not working. I priced them and the cheapest one I found was at Autozone for $170.99 plus tax. I did buy one and put it on and my light came back on. I would also like to know why being it is a brand new EGR Valve. I am going to have it checked by another mechanic today, 3/18/04. If I find out any information, I will let you know. My email address is [email protected]. Feel free to email me if you wish. If you have an Autozone around you, check the prices there. Also, Advance Auto's price was the same as Autozone. At Autozone, it has a 3 month warranty. Art PA

Re: Bad EGR Valve + Keyless Entry

Most EGR sol #3 errors are actually caused by a restricted passage in the upper intake manifold (plenum). (Assuming you have a 3.1 "M" code engine...)

Re: Bad EGR Valve + Keyless Entry

You can take it off and clean it with carb cleaner and a small nylon brush. I had the same problem on my 97 and that fixed it. You will need to buy a new gasket for it, but $5 beats $200.

Re: Bad EGR Valve + Keyless Entry

FWIW, I did this and the light hasn't come back on because of it.
