Hey all, now that the car is running, I need to take care of getting my vtec to kick in. I wondered what you all are using, and how it's working for you. I have a chance to pick up an autometer rpm switch with a 3K rpm pill in it for $60, do any of you have any experience with that setup? Just trying to decide...

for your average daily driver, an rpm activated switch will work just fine. without proper fuel mapping, you might run a little lean in VTEC, just run 89 or 91 octane fuel, you should be okay.

I used to use the rpm activated switch, then i bought a Field SFC-VTEC, it works great. Apexi VAFC is very nice as well.

one thing though, you'll want to get a new set of pills.. probably the 4000 range. they normally come in odd and even, so you could get like the 4k odd set of 4100,4300,4500,4700,4900 etc. etc. or whatever. 4500 to 4800 is a good VTEC activation point.

I am running a PG7 ecu, isn't that a little richer mixture? Why not run the vtec at 3000 or 3500? Is there a reason for putting it higher? Why get a new set of pills? do they wear out? i am really new to vtec, so this is my first encounter with vtec tuning...

the idea of VTEC is for the higher cam to take over when the lower cam stops making power. the stock setting is 4800 or so, stick with that. Only with aftermarket cams would you want to up the VTEC point.. the same with forced induction.

I suggest you get a new pill so you can activate VTEC at 4500 rpm or so.

I heard if you set vtec below 4000 rpm it stumbles on its face.
