Electrical problem in 97 Grand Cherokee

I've got a weird problem - occasionally (it's happened twice in the last 2 months) on long trips, the interior lights come on. Sometimes they stay on for several minutes, then go off. Other times they flash on and off; this can go on for about 15 minutes or so. My short term solution is turn the car off for a few minutes, then sstart up again; this usually solves the problem but once last time the lights started acting up again after I had been travelling about an hour.

This has NEVER happened on short trips (< 2 hours).

Seems to me like there is some of of relay problem, but it's purely a guess. Any clues??

door ajar switch

The same thing happened to my 97 Jeep Gr. Cherokee, but my interior lights stayed on. I had to pull the fuse, and left it off. The problem is a bad door ajar switch which is located in the liftgate. There is actually a TSB out (if you do a search on it), which tells you the reason and how to repair (which I have not done). I believe it was from water getting to the switch and corroding it. That particual switch is about $20, but not sure the difficulty to install it
good luck

door ajar?

I tried to post as a new thread, it wouldn't let me.

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 93000 miles on it. This has just happened within the past couple of days, when I'm driving it keeps telling me that the passenger door behind the driver is ajar? and now the alarm has gone off twice this evening when its just sitting in my driveway?

Re: Electrical problem in 97 Grand Cherokee

anyone know what or where this switch is? I think it also has something to do with my rear wiper not working.

Re: Electrical problem in 97 Grand Cherokee

While we are at it, i have a 96 GC I6 and the interior lights flicker from dim to bright whenever I have the lights on. Is it just a short in the wiring, or can it be easily fixed, because it's very annoying. Thanks.
