Dohc modification on a Sohc D16Y8
I have a D16y8 (sohc) and i was wondering if there is such a modification to take off the stock SOHC head and replace it with a DOHC head.
basically to turn you EX into and SI??? (i want a DOHC!!!) if so....can you list some manufacturers or sites? |

Nope no such luck. Don't you think that if it were possible, lots of other people would be doing it instead of spendsing thousands on a swap?

I think at least theoretically it is possible. One reason I believe people don't do it is because, cost for cost, an engine swap would be less time consuming than having a DOHC head fitted on a SOHC block, since basically you will need to re work the block in such a way as it will not only accomodate the DOHC head, but DOHC internals as well, like its pistons, rods, crankshaft, etc. Not at all practical, given that there are DOHC engines already in the market and at such (relatively) low price. Less work, for what I would assume to be the same amount of money (or maybe even more) that you will invest just to have that DOHC head fitted on a SOHC block. But it would be interesting if you're the first one to do it, and post the total cost of it. If it does prove to at least be the same or a little less than an engine swap, again given that there is a limit to how many engines are built anyway, then it might become an alternative later on to engine swap, and just might provide more life to the aftermarket industry.

Sure ANYTHING is possible, if your pockets are deep enough.

it could be done in theory, but the people doing the work would be asking the question "why?" all the time.
Just swap in a b16 and you'll be fine. I'm doing mine over x-mas break for only 2200. YAY! (cheap cause we're doing it in his driveway)
