Effects of Sport Package on 325i/330i Performance
Hello everyone,
I would like to learn how the sport package affects braking performance and lateral acceleration of the 2003 BMW 325i and 2003 BMW 330i. (If you also have data about the 330i Performance Package, that would be great to hear as well.) What would be most useful would be a matrix of: 325i (without sport package): 70-0 braking distance, lateral acceleration 325i (with sport package): 70-0 braking distance, lateral acceleration 330i (without sport package): 70-0 braking distance, lateral acceleration 330i (with sport package): 70-0 braking distance, lateral acceleration Also, is there any way to get the wide tires on either car without the sport-tuned suspension? I'm not sure that I necessarily want it. It's the tires that do a huge part of the work, from what I understand. Thanks. |

I've found some data from Motor Trend November 2003 issue about the 330i performance package (compared to 330i sport package)
0-60mph 6.1 (5.8) 1/4mile [email protected] ([email protected]) braking 60-0mph 109ft (134ft) skidpag 0.84g (0.86g) 600ft slalom 67.5mph (64.9mph) you can get wider tires without the sports package, either at the dealer as an accessory or you can buy it at tirerack.com or some other stores, it doesn't really matter, but the dealer cost is always higher |

Re: Effects of Sport Package on 325i/330i Performance
Thanks MioCLK. The real problem is getting data for the 325i... That's what I really like to know because I think that's more of what I'd get right now.
I find it very annoying that all the magazines always quote 330i numbers... I think the reality is that the 325i with the upgraded tires will do pretty damn well too. FYI to everyone, the 70-0 distance of the 330i with the Performance Package really is among the very very best... within a few feet of supercars! Nice... Interesting point about getting wider tires at the dealer -- Stevens Creek BMW said no. I'll ask around some more. |

yeah..car magazines rarely test the "entry-levels"
they always want to test drive the more expensive ones maybe thats also a way for car manufactures to show off their products, just like usually you see them test cars loaded with options the 325i has smaller brakes compared to 330i 12.8 vs 11.8 front, 12.6 vs 11.6 rear, it might need a bit more stopping distance than the 330, but it should be enough for everyday driving oops..I think I messed up What I meant was they offer "rims" as accessories, not the tires, sorry |
