98 Taurus cd changer

Hello,
Newby here.I am looking to get a cd changer for my Taurus which goes in the trunk(factory).I have spotted a couple on ebay and my local "recycled"parts stores.Anyone know what the ford part numbers are for the cd changer and the cd changer wiring harness.I want to get the right parts but my local dealer is no help and usually charges twice the wholesale price.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

I am also looking for a trunk mounted CD changer for our 99 Taurus. Does anyone have any experience with the factory unit as opposed to aftermarket units? It appears that the hook-up in the trunk is pretty easy.

Third this.. I just bought a former rental car and it looks as if someone held on to the changer when they rented the car, cause even the wires from the silver box are missing. I have a 12 disc Pioneer laying around waiting for a home, would I be able to use this with the right adapter? Thanks

Re: 98 Taurus cd changer

Look for a AudioVox that is what i have. Tomorrow I will post what model it is, manual is down in the car. But it was installed by ford for the first owner of the car. Works great I drive hard and it never skips. Had a friend jam a cd in it once and it was really easy to open and fix. In the process of that I had to take it out and reinstall it. Very easy. Check under the trunk between the left speaker and where the lid meets the car. See if your wire harness is there. If you are set up and the harness it there then it will take 10 minutes.

Re: 98 Taurus cd changer

Look closely at the connector in your trunk. If it has the same shape and number of pins it should work. I just put a changer from an expedition this mroning into a 1998 Taurus. Aside from mounting, it is a simple 15 min. job using sheet metal screws to mount the bracket.

Re: 98 Taurus cd changer

PS changers from 1998 Ford vehicles on up should work. I suppose each model and year has its own part number.
The built in interface should connect to and operate any of them.
Further there are aeveral aftermarket changers that will interface withe your control unit via an adapter cable.
You should not need an adapter with the factory unit.
The factory units are made by Clarion.

Re: 98 Taurus cd changer

I have seen units on ebay sell for 19.99 and up.
I wouldn't touch the one for 19.99. It looked like it had lost after a long night of mud wrestling.
There is a junk yard that seems to price them at $89.95 on the "Buy it Now" method and starts regular bidding at 69.95. LOL
