Power Steering Issue

I have a 1998 Chevy Silverado. While making a turn the engine killed. Upon restarting it I had found out that there was no power steering. This led me to believe that I had a power steering pump failure. It was a major failure because the shaft pulled right out of the pump while replacing it.

I purchased a new pump and installed it. However, after installing the pump I still had no power steering. I removed the pressure hose from the gear box to see if there was fluid coming out, Nada.

There is a valve on the back of the pump that has a two wire connection. Can anyone tell me what this valve does and could this be the culprit? Also, I have heard that there is a power steering sensor that has been known to go bad on GM vehicles. Where is this sensor located and could this be causing the problem?

Any answers to these questions or any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely - Scorpio

Re: Power Steering Issue

pump shaft are common on these to shear off clean. the evo steering will not cause this, did the new pump come with the evo sensor already on the pump or did you have to swap it, sounds like the flow valve in the pump is stuck.
