Battery drain on '86 Taurus
The car sat for about 8 months, and when I went to start it, the battery was dead. Charged it up and it started right up. I then drove it around for about an hour and parked it. The next day......same thing.
I then disconected the negative battery terminal and put a volt meter between the cable and the battery and it was showing a 12.86 volt drain. I have pulled all the fuses (one at a time) and have not found the source. I also disconected the alternator and saw now change. Any other ideas? Thanks for your time, Jim |

Re: Battery drain on '86 Taurus
There is always low level drain from techy components. Check how many amps are being drawn. The battery may just be dead. Try load testing the battery.

the battery is most likely dead. Either that, or check the voltage regulator. I had one of those go bad on me, too. Its on the inside of the fender under the hood, on the driver side.

I had this problem on a Chrysler once . . .turned out to be a bad electrical harness. Basically, all the "major" wiring. About $500 to replace it.
