what engines would be a direct replacement for the 2.0 sohc

I own a 98 escort, and after only 180,000 miles the engine took a dump. Are there any other engines that would work in there with little to no mods? Any info would be great.

no.
There are a hand full of motors that will fit the mounts, but they all require work llike differant tranny's, and computer w/ wiring harness.
1.8 GTX and GTR turbo's , KL-ZE V6. or Zx2

How about a 1.9, is it a direct replacement? The reason I ask is I been offered one pretty cheap.

Well, a 1.9 would bolt in and fit, but if you think your car is slow now, imagine 88 hp.

That must be why nobody talks about the 1.9. I would like to try the ZX2 motor and trans, but I am pretty new to this. So other than the engine and trans, can any one tell me what else I would need to make it work?

A Zx2 would require a computer/wireing harness swap, that adds a lot of time into the swap process.
You could allways replace your 2.0 with another 98+ and turbo it if you need more power.

If you want more idea's go to www.escortracing.com and click on message board.
