1990 Accord LX Alternator

I just had the battery replaced last week. Yesterday, when I tried to start it at work, it wouldn't go. The battery was totally run down, so after I got a jump, I let it run for 45 minutes to charge the battery. I turned off the car, then noticed that the power door locks weren't working, so I tried starting the car again...no dice. I'm going to have the battery tested to see if it can hold a charge, but if it isn't that, I am pretty sure it is the alternator.

Can someone point me to a how to on replacing the alternator? Or other possibilities if it isn't the battery.

Thanks!

Hello,

I had the same problems a while back with my 1990 Accord EX. I replaced the battery and that wasn't the problem. I bought the repair manual "Chilton's Honda: Accord/Prelude 1984-95 Repair Manual" (See if this link works: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books ) and used it to see the best way to replace the alternator. You can buy it at your local parts store for about $15. Of course, some of the photos aren't great, but if you study where it is on the engine and what it is connected to, you should be able to figure it out easily. I used to get overwhelmed at the thought of doing such a thing, but I just had to jump in there and try it.

You will have to take off the powersteering pump, but that isn't very hard. Be careful to drain the power steering fluid so it doesn't spill.

Just keep track of what parts went where and you should be fine. I felt mighty proud of myself after replacing it and it fixed my problems.

If you need more direction, let me know. I am happy to help. I am learning too and it is encouraging to find others that have done the same repairs.

Re: 1990 Accord LX Alternator

After charging the battery for 45 mins, the car should start up, and run for awhile until the bttery train, if this is so, then it's u'r alternator ( replaced with remanufacture) shouldn't be that hard, but be patient when removing it. Altternator should be replaced for these these accord 90', it's time for them to retiredgoodluck, any question feel free to ask. I replaced my.

wow, if you're alternator has lasted this long ;o). Anyhow, go down to the local AutoZone or Advanced Auto and pick up a simple Haynes or Chilton's manual....won't take but a few bucks, and you'll be more than capable of swapping that bad boy out without a problem! While you're there, ask them if they'll check your battery and your alternator, most of the auto parts stores will do that for you, and for free ;o)

Re: 1990 Accord LX Alternator

Well, it must be the battery connector is not tight enough or the alternator is on its way out, the brush is weared from the alternator or something there is not tight as when you travel a a higher speed , the engine vibrates, and so its cause light to blink.. Hope this Help
