Fog Light Installation for 2004 Silverado

I just purchased a 2004 Silverado taht did not come with fog lights. I ordered them from the dealership and they were easy to install. One problem, they do not work correctly.

The instructions state GM has to update the computer codes. GM denies this. To get them to work they crossed (switched) two wires connecting to the switch. Lights work, but cargo lamp doesn't.

Any suggestions?

I don't have any technical suggestions, but I'd take the truck back to the dealer, show them the section in the instructions that says they need to update the computer codes (either the dealer's wrong or the printed instructions from GM are wrong, and my money would be on the dealer being wrong), show them that the cargo lamp isn't working, and make them fix it right.

Did you have to replace the switch with this fog light kit?

Most of the time all the wiring you need to add factory options to your truck is there. All you had to do was to install lights and replace the factory switch with the one equipped for the factory fog light option.

If you need further help give me a detailed description of what you did and your problem and I'll do the best I can.

I have an 03' Z-71 with no fog lamps.I went back to my dealer to make purchase of light kit.Since I wanted to maintain my warranty I was going to get the dealer to install.Service mgr refused to do the installtion b/c of former problems w/ after market install. He (dealership) could not get the bcm properly programmed and was getting continuos probs.I called GM 800 they stood behind dealer to not install after market electrical accessories.

Iwent to another dealer and they said they had installed after market kits before w/ no prob. The only way to maintain warranty is to have dealer update bcm with proper code and to update your owner profile.Hope this helps
