Fuel gauge

I have a 2000 prelude base. I was wondering if anyone has had a problem where their fuel tank is full, but the gauge only shows half full. I went to my local honda dealer and they said it was most likely the fuel sending unit which is around $400. I have asked around and I have never heard anyone else having this prob with their lude. Any suggestions?

Re: Fuel gauge

may be the gauge itself. find yourself another gauge to put in there temporarily and see if that works. never heard of that problem myself.

Re: Fuel gauge

Can I just replace the fuel gauge or do I have to replace the whole gauge cluster. I have never heard of this problem happening on preludes but it did happen on the 98-00 accords.

I am having the same problem with my 86 Prelude. I am going to check the sending unit one of these days to see if that is the problem. You may want to go to a junk yard and get one and see if it works before you fork over big money for a new part.
