Windows going up/down slow

I just bought a 98 Civic EX and the driver window goes up and down MUCH faster than the passenger window. What would be the cause for this window to go up and down slow? Motor going out?

Re: Windows going up/down slow

Either that or your tracks are getting all messed up. My window got all f'ed up and after weeks of trying to adjust/fix it myself, I took it back to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty.

I want to begin this post with a special thanks to Ricochet...everytime I make a new thread he is always one of the first ones to help me. And he always give me a pretty good idea of what my problem is. Thanks Ricochet.

Now back to the question...see I would take it to the dealer BUT I doubt my car is under warranty. It's a 98 Civic ex...lol too bad there's not a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty

I wonder how much it would cost to have this fixed...this is one of those things that people will rag on a nice car about

Re: Re: Re: Windows going up/down slow

Well mine got so bad it would actually pop off track in the dead of Winter and would only go up half way. If you want to mess with it yourself, you could take off your whole door panel (unscrew your speaker, unscrew your plastic door handle casing, take off your plastic casing with all the window buttons, and the entire panel just unclips with a slight tug) and mess with the screws holding the tracks on. There are screws holding the tracks on behind the mirror, and a bolt behind where you speaker is. Try loosening those and moving the track slightly, then tighten them back and roll the window up/down. Keep doing that and see if that works through trial and error. If nothing goes your way by doing that, your best bet would be to take it to a dealer/shop and fork the dough.

Its your window regulators, happened to me, but both sides!
They were only like $71.00 ea here at Honda, so the fix is relativly inexpensive. I think these are the part numbers, give Honda a call and ask.

Hope that helps.

Re: Re: Re: Windows going up/down slow

Well genius, that would be great if you only wanted them to work for a few weeks. Might as well give your 8 year old brother a wrench and let him do the work, it would probally come out the same. Why would you want to do the job 1/2 way when the fix is shy of $150?!

Be nice kids. As much as we hate admitting it, our cars are actually econo boxes and not everything on them is built 100% effecient. Lubing up your window tracks will help a lot, and lengthen the time from slow to off the tracks. Try the spray, it's cheaper than fixing it, but mine were doing the same thing until they finally popped off the tracks.

Re: Windows going up/down slow

I have a 97 civic and mine does the same thing. It has always been like that so I thought it was just mine until my friend got a 97 also and his does the same thing, I think it might just be a flaw in the car
