Question suggestion for a turbo

Would anybody know what kind of turbo kit to get for a non-turbo MR2 (my friend's MR2)?
Also, how much boost can this engine tolerate before requiring any more reinforcement?

well go to a junkyard and find a CT26 (91-93 Turbo) or a CT20B (93+ turbo) and the engine can handle up to 18psi no sweat, when u push it up to 20+ it can come close but some mkII can handle it well

those turbos are off of MR2 MKII turbos

Unfortuantely he was asking about the NA MR2 engine and that can not handle 18 psi. That engine was not deisgned for boost. There are a few people that have succesfulyl turboed that engine, but it is risky.

It would be a better option to find a 3sgte (the turbo engine) and swap the whoe lengine over into your NA. This is done frequently with great results.

If he's on a budget, I'd probably recommend finding a CT26 turbo. It shouldn't be too difficult to fit on the 5S-FE (assuming its a US spec NA, not Jap/Euro spec 3S-GE NA). The down side to this, is that the 5S-FE can't handle much boost before the pistons let go (seen it happen on local Celica's). I wouldn't recommend anymore than 10psi (that may even be pushing it). If your friend wants better results, he should definetely go for an engine swap (3S-GTE), the later the better. In my opinion, this is a much better option because it'll have some potential to make more power later down the track.

Good luck!
