300ZX "85 - security lamp?

Hey all!

I'm new here. so i'll give it a go and see if you guys can answer me my question since no-one in Sweden can do that for me. Not even Nissan's special support..

I got this old Z from USA, and since it's only 1 of these here in Sweden it's very hard for me to find information about it since it's a big difference between the european car and the USA-spec.


Anyways, i recently changed the thing that shares the spark-ignition to each cylinder, forgot the word for it. but i guess you understand what i mean
this car has been standing still outside for like 3 or 4 years, since last week. the engine haven't gone far, only 77817 miles. And it's sold from Phil Tolkan in Milwaukee.

Ok the problem is, i was gonna move the car and i put R in, slowly going backwards and then it suddenly dies, got no ignition to the sparkplugs. screwed the spark-thingy of and then on again. worked fine after that.
But a lamp on the dashboard flashes SECURITY, and i have no idea what it is babbling about.
Was thinking to myself if it's any inbuilt alarm on the car? But if it is, how do you enable it and/or disable it?
Or is it something else?

I appreciate any help i can get.

The 300zx did come with a security system i know that. It is located under the passenger seat. Basically mine flashes if i have something open, ie trunk, door, or hood. Make sure the swith to the trunk is closed and the hood is tight thats what my problem with it was.

Thanks alot, got unsure if it really was that too.

One of the doors wasnt closed for me, so now it works just fine with the lamp.


Still don't get it why the car just stopped. Can it have anything to do with the security thingy?

i had that same exact problem with my car. well almost. see my horn relay was out so all i got when my alarm went off was flashing lights. so i had no idea i had an alarm i couldnt get my car to start at all. so im guessing that since you messed with the ignition that you can start it but it wont let you go too far but thats just a guess. anyways the alarm is triggered 30 seconds after you lock and shut all doors and hatches. then if your car is tampered with at all then the alarm will go off you then have to lock and shut the doors then unlock and open the doors with your key. its a pain sometimes but when you get the hang of it its really nice thing to have. maybe its different for other cars but i have a 85 300zx and thats the way it is with mine good luck and if you get too out of it check out www.zcarparts.com they can help a lot and they have really cool mods for z cars!
