98 Suburban w/door lock & light problems

My 98 Surburban LT has developed some electrical problems. 1. The doors will not lock/unlock with interior switch but work with the key fob. 2. The rear window will not work with the key fob. I can unlock with the key itself. 3. The interior lights stay on when parked, unless I press the button on the lower left side of the dash which keeps the int. lights off all the time. If I let the interior lights work on thier own, they do turn off when driving except when I press the brake pedal. Then they come on and the go off when releasing the brake pedal. When I get in to drive the truck, I hear clicking sounds under the dash for the first 10-15 seconds as I'm driving, then it goes away.

Does someone know what the heck is going on? My local dealer is too busy to look at it and it is driving me crazy.

Thank you for your help.

LT

Re: 98 Suburban w/door lock & light problems

My 98 LT Suburban just started acting the same. Not only will the brake pedal activate dome light but the window and door lock switches as. Have you or any one else been able to resolve? Thanks.

Re: 98 Suburban w/door lock & light problems

You might try looking to see if all fuses work which are connected to the remote accesory control module. There are typically 2 fuses. Check for broken or grounded wires at the hinge area of the doors.

My sub doors have weird problems which I have not yet diagnosed; rear right one locked up with door open: could not close the door. Spent 15 minutes with a wrench and moving the door handle to fix. Just this week, the driver door did the same. No amount of wrench/crobar etc can move the lock latch though, so I can't close the door. Great on right hand turns! Right hand panel controls will not unlock the locks, but will lock all the locks. Hoping there is a small part which needs replacing on the driver door. It's a 92. Workhorse of a car otherwise.

Re: 98 Suburban w/door lock & light problems

I had similar interior light problem on my 92 suburban. the door switch on the passenger front had melted, leaving that switch in the "on" position regardless of whether the door was open or not. Simple to change out by reaching under the dash, squeeze the switch tabs, and pushing the switch out.

My 99 is giving me some funky electrical probs too. When I turn on the headlights, the door locks activate, though after some time of this happening they have quit locking. I have been told that it is likely the "body control module" maybe this will help you

Re: 98 Suburban w/door lock & light problems

1999 GMC Suburban...interior lights intermittently come on by themselves, sometimes maybe tied to pressing brake pedal, bumps, etc. Also, AC light (and recirculate light) do not go OFF when the fan control turned CCW to off.

Any ideas?

I had exactly the same problem with my 98 suburban 1500 LT. I finally took it to my dealer and it was fixed for less than $100.00.

Re: 98 Suburban w/door lock & light problems

Well, got my trouble fixed finally. Had a short in the taillight pigtail and a main ground by the rear AC unit that was left unattatched.

Cost me four lock actuators and 45 min to put them in.

If you ever have to replace an actuator, don't let the dealer do it. They wanted to charge me an hour per dour + $83/ actuator. Bought them thru the local vo-tech that worked on my truck and got them for $60, then with help, installed all 4 in under an hour.
