Re: Fuel Pump

Can you change the fuel pump in a 1991 3.8 lesabre without pulling the tank?

yes just cut a hole in the floor under the seat. if you drop the tank just make sure you have new straps(napa $25) and two new pins(buick $11) dont for get bolts and nuts and you also must drop the exaust slide the fuel fill pluming and disconnect the fuel lines. it will take 8 hours with out a shop.

I had to have the whole sending unit replaced because the lines had rusted...that was like $300 just for that part alone! And you may want to consider spending the extra $$$ for an OEM fuel pump.

Re: Fuel Pump

I could not agree with HannabilRox more. Never, ever, ever put an aftermarket fuel pump in your tank. Genuine GM parts only. I have an '89 LeSabre that went through three "parts store" pumps in two years. When I finally learned my lesson and put in a GM part, I stopped having fuel pump problems. The makers of the aftermarket junk will try to tell you it's your fault for having "junk" in your tank. If in fact that were true, the GM part apparently handles it a lot better. Best way to keep junk out of your tank is to use a GM part in the first place!
