The mclaren is the best but... what is the best Mclaren the f1 , the lm ......

Which is the best ?

The LM has the looks and has way better accel than the f1 or the gtr or any other Mclaren.

The f1 has the highest top speed And the gtr is the best on the track!

There are 5 different type os mclaren know to date as far as the f1s go Not the lmps. The types are the F1 , LM , GTR , GTR long tail and the LE. < the f1s also comes with the gtr areo kit & a spoiler on it if you want a little more style> The LE might sound strainge but its actually the f1 with rear view mirrors on top of the doors. Mine is the Hot Mclaren LM there were only 5 made and they like the gtr's but they have no "air restrictors"! But what is the Best overall?????????

That would be a new one for me also. Maybe someone with an F1 GT brochure could look through it and try to confirm. I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt that 'jcsaleen' has any real experience with an F1 GT. I've also never, ever heard of the F1 GT referred to as the LE anywhere else before. I don't like to call anyone a liar, but it certainly sounds strange to me.

jcsaleen - if you have a photo or more info to back that up, please share it with the group.

jcsaleen,
you are right in saying that there's 5 broad groups. But there is no version called LE.

The groups are:
F1
LM
GTR (racecar - 95, 96)
GTR 97 (longtail racecar - 97)
GT (longtail road car)

Some notes:
- Each of the above versions had exerimental prototypes. Those chassis were designated XP.

- Quite a few of the F1s have had the HDF kits added. Their F1 roadcar designation has not changed.

- Some roadcars have received LM spec engines and other modifications. Their F1 roadcar designation has not changed.

- One of the GTRs has been converted to full LM spec. Its GTR designation has not changed.

-The GTR cars were significantly changed each season, so the 95 and 96 cars are different, even though visually they appear to be similar.

-In 97, the longtail GTR came out, and, besides the mechanical differences, it was very different visually.

- A racecar was built out of spare parts by a team in Japan. The chassis has an SP designation.

So, if you wanted to be really particular, you could divide the GTR group into GTR 95 and GTR 96. And you could also add SP to the list, making 7 distinct groups. The XPs are representative of the group of cars that they were experimental prototypes for, so I would not put them in a separate group. I would also not create a group for the clinic cars.

To answer your question, of which one is best:
IMO it is the LM. It has the racecar's performance without the crudeness of the GTRs. In some ways, it has superior performance, since it does not have intake restrictors. The LM also has the "king among kings" pedigree, and I think it is simply gorgeous to look at--the black carbon fibre accents set off the orange very nicely.

What I like most about it, though, is that it is completely useable as a roadcar. That was the whole point of the McLaren F1. To take one and convert it into a raw racecar does it a disservice, I think. The LM stays true to the philosophy behind the greatest roadcar ever built.

best F1

The LM is the best all-around F1, I think.

If a windfall of dollars came my way I would have to have 2 F1s though. A standard, ho-hum F1 road car (BRG or that deep purple color). And a GTR for the track. Of course, I would also have a summer home in St Joviet, Quebec with a garage for it - just down the road from the Mt Tremblant race circuit...

EDIT: Happy Birthday, by the way. And to you Maarten. Coincidently, mine was Oct 29.
