Talking Another Keyless Entry Question...hehehe

This is not about programming the keyless entry as I found that through my searches. Here is my question.

I have an '03 Tahoe and and '03 Silverado. Both have keyless entry. Since I do not feel like carrying around 2 remotes with me all the time, I was wondering if you could program 1 remote to work on two vehicles.

Any ideas on whether this would work?

Thanks,
Larry J.

it sounds like the more appropriate question is programming the other vehicle to the remote.... b/c the remote would have to have two channels.... which they dont.... but let me know if you figure that out...as one would think chevrolet would want to sell more than one vehicle to each customer... would have an answer for you

First, are the two remotes for each of the trucks the same? Different GM models sometimes use different transmitters. To determine if they're the same transmitter look on the back of your Tahoe remote and Silverado remote at the part number (something along the lines of "GM: 15186200"). I believe the part numbers will have to be the same for this to work. If they aren't the same you can check to see if they're interchangeable by trying to program the Tahoe remote for the Silverado and the Silverado remote for the Tahoe.

Assuming the part numbers do match (or the remotes are interchangeable), I'd have someone work with you and go through the programming sequence with both vehicles at the exact same time. This is just a guess, but I'd bet it'd work. If it doesn't work don't give up, there should be some way of doing it because at my work we've got a fleet of '03 Tahoes and one keyless entry transmitter works on several of them (that's the way they came from the dealer).

If you do get it to work let us know.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I finally got the answer that I needed last night. You can program your remote to work on two vehicles. It turns out that the '03 Silverado and the '03 Tahoe use the same remote. I programmed the truck first then went and programmed the Tahoe next and bingo one remote worked on both vehicles.

PS...Don't forget to program your remotes in order if your vehicle supports more than one driver as my Tahoe does. If you don't, your remotes will either be backward or the one not reprogrammed will not work at all.

The truck does not support the Driver 1 and Driver 2 options (LS), but the Tahoe does (LT). I just used the remotes from the Tahoe and all works as needed.

Thanks,

Re: Another Keyless Entry Question...hehehe

How do I program one remote to do just driver 2 functions?

I just bought a 2003 silverado but only have one remote (#1).

I just picked up a new #2 remote, but not sure how to add that remote and make it work for #2 driver seat mirror functions?

thanks much!
