Unhappy blower motor gone mad?

I own a 99 Grand Am and recently found that the heater/AC only works on the top speeds, which I have learned here is most likely the blower motor resisitor. What has me more puzzled is the fact that all air now blows out of all 'holes' at the same time, regardless of the setting (defrost, floor, vents). Will replacing the blower motor resistor solve this problem as well?

Also, on the off chance that my blower motor resistor is not completely gone and it's just a blown fuse (which I think I've read here)... where is that fuse?? I've looked all over the place but can't find anything. Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't have an answer for you, but I would think it was something to do with the air ducts in the dash. I would think that if air was blowing thru all the holes, including the defrost and floor vents, it would all seem pretty weak. So maybe whatever channels the air is broken? I would think it was some plastic thing somewhere in there.

Me too

I have a 1993 Grand Am and am having the same problem with my blower motor that you are. It started about a week ago. Also, my cruise control stopped working as well. I'm wondering if the two problems are connected in some way.

I had the same problem (blower doesn't work on speed 1 and 2, but OK on higher speeds) with my 99 Grand AM. Checked the relay mentioned, fuses; all OK.

Then took the hard road by removing the resistor. That was the problem. It was fried. I tried to repair the burnt section to no avail. So I bought a new one from the dealership. (~$25). It was a royal pain to replace it. I had to buy a 1/4 drive swivel using a 5.5mm socket and a 7/32 closed in wrench. I've got the cuts on my hands to prove it wasn't fun.

So, bottom line, it sounds like the resistor is typically the problem when the blower blows on speeds 3+, but not on speeds 1 or 2.

Regards
