pic request
Im looking for some LM pics, mainly:
i need a pic like this: http://www.exoticcarsite.com/picture...laren-lm-8.JPG , but from the right side, so i can see the side vent straight-on pics of LM interior would be grateful too. any closeup of the rear-exhuasts, as they look closer then in the roadcar. also.. i notice some lm pics have 4 small holes at the top of the rear side window, but some dont, why is this? oh and does anyone have a nice closeup of the decal on top of the front window? taken from straight-on if possible? oh and.. any closeup of the XP decal ahead of rear wheel? maybe even the XP ZO wheel rim? (i notice the production lm had wheels that say F1LM and not ZO) Any pics of these and i will be very very very very very very grateful! |

I should be able to help with the photo requests when I get home. Right now, I can at least address some of your questions.
The only LM which had those four small vent holes in the rear quarter windows was the prototype - XP1 LM. They don't seem to have filtered down to the production LMs and I'm not sure why they were left off. As far as the door windows go, you can replace the solid lexan windows with ones that feature a sliding unit built into them, so you'll see some variance there. The only LM that is going to have the "XP1 LM" decal ahead of the rear wheel would be the prototype. The customer LMs do not have any decal there. Depending on which car you wish to replicate would determine whether you include that. The wheels are actually made by a German company "OZ", not "ZO" you must have been looking at them upside down. Again, as you state, the prototype would be the only one that wears those wheels, and the OZ logo was simply painted onto the wheel spoke. The actual customer LMs have the "F1 LM" logo carved out a spoke in each wheel. Again, you can choose to use whichever you want in your creation.I would only suggest for accuracy sake that you decide whether you want to mimic the prototype or the customer LMs and then stick to the details that apply to that particular one. Let me know if you have more questions, and I can throw in some photos later on. >8^) ER |

cheers
![]() its just that im modeling an LM (older pic: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ch.whit...renf1/LM/2.jpg im turning my roadcar into it which is why it has some things wrong on that pic) im just wondering if i should make an XP paint-job for the car, which would add the different wheels and XP decal. are the holes, rims, and side decals, the only things different in XP1? and was there only one prototype LM? oh and i saw some stuff on the "black lm's" on here, have these been proven to exist? or are ppl still unsure about them? |

Your work looks really good so far - you do need the flared front fenders, that's the most obvious difference that I can see when I look at what you have so far.
As far as I know, those three things (vent holes, wheel logo, side decal) would be the only visual exterior differences between the prototype (only one was made for the LM model) and the five customer LMs. You could make the different paint job for the prototype, but I would just make one or the other and not worry beyond that. Personally, I would go for the prototype since photos of that are more common. As far as the black LMs - I am convinced that they exist based on testimony from people who would know, but of course I can't prove that they exist with photos unfortunately. The user here 'andybee' designed many of the liveries that were seen on the various F1 GTRs among other projects at McLaren. He worked with McLaren Cars at the time the black LMs would have been built, and has described them here to the best of his recollection. I have always believed that they exist no matter how many sources might claim that the LMs were all painted Paypaya Orange. Besides Andy, another contact that I have made also confirmed that they do exist - though he claims their whereabouts are currently unaccounted for. Maybe someday the photos will surface... >8^) ER |

andy said to me in a pm about the black lm's that some people weren't too happy with him telling stuff about: "the sultan's LM's"
and I think he meant that the two black cars were belonging to the sultan, which explaines why there aren't any pics of them around the net. EDIT: the skirts is something to pay attention to as well, or maybe you just haven't started making them |

Now to the photos...
This is the best direct shot of the right side of the car that I have seen: ![]() I'm fairly certain that is a very old photo of LM03. ![]() Here's an alternate angle to give you some perspective: ![]() I think this is the best interior shot I have ever seen: Also from that same site is a photo that shows that XP1 LM did eventually wear the wheels with the "F1 LM" logo etched into them. This is probably going to be your best shot of the "XP1 LM" logo also. For the record if you aren't familiar, that website is: http://www.centralcoastweb.com/nsxb/...n/mclaren.html This isn't a head on shot of the windshield decal, but it's quite possible the best one there is: ![]() The best shot of the rear exhaust seems to be this one of LM03: ![]() And a great shot of the gauge cluster on LM03: ![]() A larger version of those last three shots, along with many others of LM03 can be found here: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/f1_lm_.htm Let me know if you need anything else. I know it's hard finding LM photos in here since the message board software won't allow you to search for "LM" >8^) ER |

This is one of the other good photos of the LM interior - courtesy of mini magic:
![]() I couldn't find them in a quick scan of the first few pages, but there were also some very good photos posted here of LM03 at a recent BMW show in the New England area. If someone could dig that thread up, it would probably have a few photos that Rich could use. ![]() >8^) ER |

That last photo was taken using a color filter over the lens and was printed in the CAR Magazine article featuring the 0-100-0 test of the F1 LM.
It is actually the exact same interior as the first smaller photo - both are shots of XP1 LM. I posted it mainly as a detail reference, but obviously the color will not be accurate with the lens filter in place, it was done more for visual effect. Personally, I don't think you really need to do something to enhance the visual effect of the F1 LM's interior - it's simply incredible all by itself. >8^) ER |
