The new GTO, good to go or should it be a no show?

I just read the latest motor trend that features the new GTO. From what all i read, it seems like a great car all around. U know its nothing blazing super fast or and all star, but has a nice interior, good quality inside and out, and has a good ol fashioned LS1. I dont want comparisons or nothin like that, just what is your overall opinion of the car? Mine, for now, is, it seems like a great car, I just dont know if i fancy the looks yet though. And i'm curious to see how "the Judge" the 400 hp version turns out in another yr or so.

Fucking superb car- I sampled it as a Holden Monaro CV8- fucking sweet ride indeed- 5 times better than the Camaro or Firebird- a sophisticated (for an Australian or American car) luxury coupe with Muscle car grunt- definitely onto a winner.

GTO's exterior looks boring compared to the Camaro's and the Firebird's, but its build quality should be infinitely better than the F-body's. I had been waiting for the LS1 to be put in a high-quality GM for a long time (excluding Corvette$$). The Camaro's interior was just... bad... very bad.

So far i'm really liking what I hear about it. Almost every review on them have ended on a positive note, which is where that leaves me. I'm thumbs up for it. I like the fact that they put the ls1 in it, thats enough to make people give second thoughts when they pull up to this sports sedan.
The GTO comes in a judge trim? That sounds like even more fun. 400hp eh, I wonder if its an ls6?

Moved from Car Comparisons forum

Dammit! Post in the appropriate forum. If you "dont want car comparisons or nothin like that" dont post in the car comparison forum!

Not many people know that Pontiac only had 11 months to make the conversion from the Holden Monaro to the Pontiac GTO. If they had more time, you might see a more muscular version. But the GTO is still basically a Holden. SLP is doing two packages for the GTO, a Royal Bobcat and a Judge. The Royal bobcat will have 389 HP and the Judge will have 421. Hopefully they can add some muscular features to go along with the engine. It's also possible that GM will make an LS6 version of the GTO, which is probably why they are fighting so badly with SLP over the Judge name. However, SLP looks like they will be winning that battle. I just look at this year as a 'testing the water' type year for GM. I hope they change their minds about cancelling GTO production after 3 years. I want to see this car evolve and become the Mustang eater they were back in the 60's.

Re: The new GTO, good to go or should it be a no show?

The GTO is fine in every respect...except for the look. Very, very bland and nondescript. You could have just as easily put a Buick grill on the front and stuck a GS or GSX badge on it (heeeey, maybe not a bad idea..if the car looked better)

There is nothing wrong with the look of a Monaro...it just doesn't make a very good looking GTO. it isn't especially beautiful, and it doesn't have a sinister looking bone in it's body.

And, unless the hp fairy shows up for the GTO in a BIG way, when the next Mustang debuts Cobra will definately not be on the menu....500hp or more according to SVT.

I wouldn't look for Mach-1 to be on that menu either, although I do think the new Mach-1 (or whatever it's replacement is called) will be the closest to the "wilder" GTO's in acceleration/handling....when it shows up.

Re: The new GTO, good to go or should it be a no show?

I've heard rumors a year later the GTO will get the LS6 along with every other GM car that is 350 equipped. As the new vette will be getting the LS2 and LS7 for the C6.

I think if they brought it back out they shouldn't have rushed it has to much grand prix/grand am front end to it. I hear everyone saying that a 'Judge' model will be introduced later on.

Guess I'll have my final opinion on it when I see it sitting in the dealership

The GTO will be getting a LS6 powerplant as an option probably next year. However, this will not be called 'The Judge' because GM does not own the rights to that name. SLP does and they will be making a 'Royal Bobcat' package with 389 HP and a 'Judge' package with an amazing 421 HP. I feel the same way about GM rushing the production and coming up with a less than thrilling new GTO. But hood scoops are a go for next year, along with some small body mods such as recessed grilles and dual exhaust which exits from either side of the car. Newagegto.com is a great place to find out more about the new GTO. If you go there, be sure to check out the forums. There were pictures posted there of the '04s getting off the boat, a sketch of a proposed '05 GTO from GM, and also a modified '04 GTO from GM which includes some stuff you might see in 2005.

Re: The new GTO, good to go or should it be a no show?

When i frist saw the Monaro I thought the same thing its a wanna be car...Nothing like good ol American Muscle.
Then I drove one all I can say imagine the power of a Trans am but rides 10 times better. that thing handles really well.
I really like the looks of the Trans Am better but I love the way the Monaro drives. Like I said with the mods you guys get there first.... man that thing will be awesome freaking all around car.

ar...id rather wait longer than 11 months, so that they could put on wider tires, slightly different rear end, WORKING hoodscoops, and the Ls2 corvette motor. oh and the exaust coming out from both sides not just one side.

also something funny, gm moved the gas tank for the gto, so it would not blown up in a rear end collision but the monaro still has it in the bak, gm must not like the aussies.
