87 bonnevile with valve train noise?
Hi, I have an 87 bonnevile with the 3.8 and it just started making a ticking/rattleing sound that I think is coming from below the coil. We took the valve cover off and it didnt appear to be a lifter problem and the valves appeared to be working. My father in law said he thought it was the timing chain, can anyone tell me if that motor/year has had any problems? Also what should I be looking for? It has idled rough for a few years and the noise is a lot worse at idle, when you rev the motor just a little it quiets down to a slight tick. Thanx in advance.

Re: 87 bonnevile with valve train noise?
Did you ever get a response to your concern.I have a 1990 Bonneville that is doing the same thing. I started to remove the valve cover to see if there were loose parts but had to stop. My car has over 200,000 miles and I don't want to spend a lot of money for repairs. Thanks in advance.

200,000 miles.....holy cow. Did you buy the car new? If you did, and you've never changed the timing chain....well, you're WAY overdue.
