spray on stuff for your hood etc??
anyone know of, or have heard of the stuff u put on your car ( i dunno if u spray it on or what not) to the hood of your car/ front bumper bar etc, and it is a "layer" of film so to speak and so when you drive late at night etc, you dont come to your car the next day to find 50000 dead mosquitoes etc attached to the front of your car and ever so hard to get off. when i first got my 99 lude, it was smick as, now its a pain and hte arse to keep clean cuz im forever out late and coming home in mosquito/flies at night. i heard there is this magical stuff available that works but ive heard no more on it.
and also, how do you guys keep your windwcreens so clean and clear? thanks in advance

I don't know of anything that will help this, it seems that just having a good coat of wax would give you the ability to just rinse off? Do you have to use bug remover each time this happens? If the car has a late nigt dew on it then you will be in trouble. Bugs and Insects are actually a by product of shellac so you will need to get a cleaner that removes shellac.

Re: spray on stuff for your hood etc??
Not a spray but do an internet search for "Clear Bra". It's becoming a popular alternative to a traditional bra, but needs to be installed professionally and will not harm your paint.
Other than that, as mentioned above, use a good wax, synthetic or carnuaba, and a good quick detailer product. Bugs, bird bombs, etc. need to be cleaned off ASAP, whether by washing and/or rinsing or by using a quick detailer. There are several quick detailers that will leave your paint very slick and easier to keep clean, Clearkote's QuickShine (can be used on your windows too), Meguiar's Final Detail (available only at auto paint supply stores and comes in gallon size), Wax Shop's Slick Stuff, etc. Dried bugs is a different problem (don't be lazy and clean them off before they get in that condition). Try a bug and tar remover or a quick detailer first before trying to wipe them off. An old trick is to use vegetable cooking oil and let it soak on the bugs. After 5 mins, the bugs will rehydrate and slide right off, but you will have to wash your car to remove any leftover oil. Some use WD-40, but that may stain some paint finishes. If you have a film on your windshield, use vinegar to clean it. Also good for removing water spots (glass and paint). 50/50 mix with water or straight vinegar for heavy duty cleaning. Vinegar will remove wax too, so be careful and rewax those areas. |

I just tried a new bug remover that works great on hoods and windshields. It's by einszett and it's called Anti-Insekt. The more I try einszett stuff, the more I love it! I wonder if it's because more people in Germany take good care of their car than they do here so the manufacturers in Germany make better car stuff. Over here it's just us car buffs who actually take good care of our cars!
Ok, off my German soapbox. One of the great things about Anti-Insekt is that is doesn't strip off your wax and yet disintegrates the bugs and grime. I agree though, other than making sure you've got a good wax on your car, it's hard to prevent the bugs from sticking. |
