What year is the motor? And if it is legal, then it's definately worth swapping into your car, you will not regret it. That motor will definately improve your car's performance. And the B18b has much more potential than your D16.

From what I've read on here, any engine swap is illegal in California if it doesn't match the vin...?

From what I understand, for a swap to be legal in cali, the motor has to be A) the same year or newer than the car. B) All the emissions control equipment from the donor motor has to still be in intact. For example, if your cars OBD I and the motor OBD II, even after it's converted to OBD I, you have to keep the OBD II crap just sitting there , intact. Even though it don't work. Otherwise you fail the visual inspection.

I'll take that pretty quick and be happy with it. Of course, after that I'll think of a way to ship the engine all the way here without having expenses go up.

b18b

What year is the motor? it will not be illegal in that car. Contact the state Ref and ask them what is required to have a b18 in your car. they will help.Or just put it in and tell no one.

A Turbo LS will be faster than a turbo'd SOHC D16. Not saying a turbo'd D16 is slow, but the LS block can handle up to 12 psi on stock internals, not to mention the added displacement will equal more torque, plus the fact you can boost it stock to a higher PSI.

A turbo'in the D will cost less than swappin and turbo'in an LS...true...but same for same (in terms of work done), the LS will kill....Do the internal work to the LS, close the deck, etc. I fully build LS boosted sky high can attain over 400HP and well over 20psi. I know a guy in Cali with a 500HP LS/Vtec he built sevarl years ago before the import boom. Of course, whether it's a LS or a D16, a fully built and boosted motor, whether a 260HP D or a 400HP LS, isn't exactly street friendly.

I am curious, what is wrong with the tranny? A B18B1 is 94+, and the tranny is hydro. Your 95 civic should be hydro. If you got a B18A1 with a cable tranny, you can use a Hasport calbe-hydro conversion kit to make it work. But then again, I suppose a 90-93 B18A1 is illegel to put in the car in cali cuz it's older than the vehicle.
